Miracle Mornings

When my three kids were much younger, I used to set my alarm for 5 a.m. to carve out an hour or so just for myself. In that quiet time, I could read, meditate, or do whatever I needed to set myself up for the day. This treasured morning routine took place in my favorite room in the house: my sunroom. Designed with intention, this space reflects everything I personally love. It’s filled with natural light, features richly colored upholstery, bohemian hand-blocked wallpaper, unique vintage pieces, and an abundance of books—oh, and, of course, an illuminated mushroom for a whimsical touch.

My happy sunroom.

I recently started reading  The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod, first published in 2012.  In this inspiring book, Elrod introduces six powerful practices (including meditation, reading and journaling) that encourage starting each day with intention and positivity. Whenever I step into my sunroom, I feel my mood instantly shift. This led me to wonder: why shouldn’t everyone have their own “morning space” or “healing space”—a personal retreat to escape to, reflecting their unique style?

As an Interior Designer, my specialty is transforming spaces into ones that truly reflect each client. Whether it’s interior decoration or a  renovation, I am positive that any room can be transformed into a “healing space.” Let me share two personal wellness spaces we’ve designed for clients seeking that perfect sanctuary.

A Place for Journaling.

A desk in a corner of a primary bedroom doubles as a writing desk and vision board.

Within this client’s primary bedroom,  you’ll find a writing desk which we reinvented by faux-finishing the piece. Tucked into a corner of the primary bedroom, this desk—imbued with special meaning for our clients—perfectly aligns with our sustainably focused vision.  We purchased the vintage wicker chair from a “rummage” sale and had it recovered in a vibrant upholstered fabric that coordinates with the decor. The combination of all of these elements makes journaling feel luxurious.

Upstairs Escape. (design in process)

This cozy loft is the perfect “hideaway”!

This cozy sectional, upholstered in the softest lilac fabric ever, invites quiet moments for reading. Paired with sage green chairs, the soft texture and hues immediately make your shoulders relax.  We specified unique, artisanal side tables for books and a cup of tea.  Natural lighting in this space is a bonus for your morning ritual.  The opposite end of this space contains this client’s personal collection of art and artifacts, ensuring that she is surrounded by these important and meaningful pieces.

By mixing colors, layering patterns and sprinkling in textures we are able to create a palette that’s both soothing and uplifting. This combination can breathe life into any space in your home and make it feel deeply personal.  And I can’t think of a better way to create your own “miracle morning” room.
