A word on wellness design from Principal Designer, Terri Fiori
Over the course of 20-plus years in the industry, I found myself gravitating toward design that inspires wellness. Along the way, I realized that my natural affinity for successfully implementing this concept stemmed from the fact that I had actually been studying wellness design my entire life.
I grew up with a mother who wasn’t always healthy. Many days I’d come home from school and find her sitting in the living room – the one room in the house that had been arranged to receive the most amount of natural light. Whether she knew at the time how therapeutic it was for her to be able to bask in the sunshine is unclear. I just knew she was drawn to that space. I witnessed first-hand how design works to our advantage, how it can lift us up, and help us function at our highest level.
This is the foundation of how I design today. I’ve incorporated my specific principles of design for wellness into my practice. Because I believe, based on both personal and professional experience, that when you are in surroundings that support you … you thrive.
